Oil & Gas: Sulzer-Mansa Rotating Equipment Workshop Commissioned
Sulzer-Mansa, a joint venture company between Mansa Engineering Limited and Sulzer Limited, commissioned a state-of-the-art workshop in November, 2022 at Takoradi, Ghana. The commissioning was led by Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, Minister of Energy and Egbert Faibille, Jnr, Chief Executive Officer, Petroleum Commission, Ghana.
The purpose of the service facility is to serve the upstream industry players, mining, energy and manufacturing industries, and to address the manpower and skills shortfall in the oil and gas industry by training Ghanaians and building capacity for the youth in these industries. The service center is located at New Amanful near Apowa in the Ahanta West District.
During the event, The CEO of Mansa Engineering, Mr. George Yaw Owusu, a pioneer in Ghana’s oil and gas sector, acknowledged the critical need for the facility and stated that it would help local engineers build capacity to take up roles in the industry. This is in line with the Local Content policy, which aims to ensure that oil and gas companies source services locally with emphasis on technology transfer. He described the local content policy as one of the best legislations in Ghana’s petroleum industry, and hoped that the policy would be applied to the mining and manufacturing industries.
Alex Myers, Head of Sulzer Services - Middle East & Africa, commended Mr. Owusu for the role he had played in the establishment of the joint venture with Mansa Engineering. He said the partnership was in line with the goals of the Petroleum Commission and the government to develop something for the people of Ghana from the oil industry.
